Parc du Reynou
Written by Jude Howat 2001
Well worth a visit is the wildlife park, Parc du Reynou. Situated to the south of Limoges, the park is easily accessible via the good road network. Parking is available outside the park gates, which are only a short walk to the entrance. This is a wildlife park with a difference - the French brochures refer to it as a "semi-free" park, which made us think that it was more of a safari park. However, this is not the case. In reality it proved much better than that.

There are areas where you can walk through the animal's fields, in addition to walking alongside mixed fields with a multitude of animals living happily together. Upon entering the park you soon reach the open farm area, where you are free to enter and walk through the pens with the Lamas, Ostriches and guinea fowl to name a few. Nearby are also various species of monkeys, some of which wander free. Leaving the farm behind the one way route takes you out past the larger apes enclosure, onto the carnivores - for obvious reasons you don't get to walk through their enclosures!

This leads you onto the grasslands, where a multitude of animals share these large plains.
As this shows the giraffes are fond of coming close to the path to nibble at the grass by the pathside - further away you will no doubt spot zebras and gnus as well. The route then takes you out through the camel's pasture to reach a small wooded grove, with a pond at its centre. This leads you towards the end of the walk where you pass some otters. The park is always expanding and improving its facilities, so I'm sure that there will be some alterations to the above description - whatever upgrades have been done its a great day out for all. Other facilities include a shop, cafe and toilets.
